Lamborghini Murcielago LP-640

The Lamborghini Murcielago LP-640 was introduced at the Geneva auto show in March of 2006. The LP stands for Longitudinale Posteriore which is in reference to its longitudinally mid-mounted engine. Audi's Partnership with Lamborghini once again allowed a beautiful vehicle to surpass it's previous siblings and fly down the road like a bat out of hell.

It is often said that there are super cars and then there is the LP-640. Then again it's been referenced as an out dated design, overweight, impractical, and overpriced. Although It can make any person between the ages of 5 and 100 a breath taking experience as it goes by.

Just starting up the car and then allowing yourself to sit back and listen to all the distance sounds of not only the growl of the full bodied mid range exhaust but every other mechanical bit inside of this 6.5 liter V-12 masterpiece. You start to pick out the sounds of the air being sucked into the engine and all the internal spinning metal parts it takes to propel this beast down the road.

Although the sheer size of this car makes it a difficult one to navigate on any regular road as it stretches almost the entire length of a normal sized lane. This width of 81 inches is to allow the pursuit and taming of super high speeds. The cars clearance of 5.5 inches off the ground is another thing to worry about especially on the california freeways I travel everyday.

The interior of this car isn't exactly what one would call ultimate luxury either. The doors don't have much hydraulic assistance so it may be hard for some to push the so loved scissor doors up and enter or exit the vehicle. Unlike the Gallardo the Murcielago doesn't have too many buttons on the dash and can make it seem rather boring and even though this car is one of the hardest to parallel park or back into a parking spot it doesn't even offer a backup camera. There are five buttons to the left of the steering wheel which will activate the lights and engage the car into reverse. The climate control doesn't offer dual zones or anything special either so no extra buttons there.

Storage in this vehicle is barely existent with it's small front trunk, but don't worry if your traveling alone you could always stow your belongings in the front seat.

Driving this bad boy requires some effort and don't turn down any dead end streets cause your liable to get stuck since the turning radius of this monster mimics that of a small commercial truck. Traveling at slow speeds could require a few Tylenol as the clutch shifts quickly but the time it takes for the clutch to re-engage seems like forever.

The car does offer the option for a set of carbon brakes just like the Gallardo but it will cost you about another $16,000 and in regular driving conditions may be difficult to operate.

Despite the writings above about some of the cars slight flaws when you drive this car for the first time you'll forget all about the small things and realize that this car is magnificent. Just parking the car would do it justice but getting it above 20 mph makes everything come together. Plus just think of how many people are gonna be staring at you as you pass by. After all this car was designed to race and travel at some of the top end speeds of the super car industry, it should come to no surprise that it's gonna be a little flawed at low speeds; it's no toyota prius after all.

Push on the gas and instantly 487 ft-lbs. (@6000 rpm) of torque will send the tires spinning and looking to catch the pavement beneath it. The 632 horse power from this mid-engined all wheel drive behemoth will accelerate you from 0-60 in a mere 3.4 seconds. With a top speed of 205 mph who can argue with the combined fuel mileage of 11 mpg, you've got one of the quickest man engineered sculptures of all time. Weighing in at about 3726 lbs. it's anything but a light object to propel either.

2009 brings a new LP-640 that has been outfitted with a custom interior and other logo's by the legendary Italian designers of Versace. As if the LP-640 wasn't expensive or exclusive enough for any buyer.
